Gluten Free Halloween Candy - 2013

This image is public Domain
So many places are doing trick or treating this year, and also they are not doing it on Halloween   I figured that this would be the perfect time to get this information out.  This is this years list of gluten free candy.  This list is as complete as possible at this time.  However, please make sure that you check the labels.  This is for the safety of you little one or even yourself if you like to pinch Halloween candy.  This could also be used as a guide in order to make sure that you yourself are giving out gluten free candy.

Gluten in Non-Food Products

This Image is Public Domain
I recently made a mistake and managed to get myself into gluten, when I say recently, I mean yesterday.  It was only after the fact did I think about what I was doing.  I had used latex gloves and had not checked what was in the powder.  I was thinking baby powder or corn starch, well I was right it was baby powder, a nice mixture of talc and gluten.  I had taken off the glove and not thinking I started to bite my nails.  Yep, I was sick.  I am still sick from that mistake.  So I am creating another list of household gluten containing items that are not (generally) edible.

Medication:

Pills
Cough Syrups
Cough Drops
Vitamins
Minerals
Capsules

Toiletries:

As I have mentioned a lot there is gluten in every type of makeup.  So I will skip those items
Toothpaste
Mouthwash
Baby Powder
Bath Salts
Soap
Sunscreen

Household items:

Detergents
Rubber Gloves, Latex Gloves
Cleaning solutions
Envelopes (I keep reading that this is not true, however, I have gotten sick off them so just don't like them if you can avoid it.)

Random items:

Glue
Art Supplies (especially Play dough or molding dough)
Gum
Pet Food

This is a basic list to get you started and to make sure that you read the ingredients on things you don't PLAN on eating.  From my experience that doesn't always happen the way I would want it to.

What other items have you found gluten in?

Hidden Gluten in Beauty Products: Words to watch for

Gluten is hidden in just about everything and that means beauty products.  However, most of the time they do not come out and say "wheat" They use other terms to hide the gluten.  Please remember that almost all oats are processed with wheat and therefore are not safe.

7 Reasons You Should Not Use Gluten Free for Weight Loss

Many people think that by going gluten free they can lose a little weight.  I mean, why not, it worked for your friend.  Here are a few things about the gluten free diet that makes it not so great for dieters.  I have ended up on this rant because I had a loaf of gluten free bread snatched out of my hands by a 700lb Jabba the Hut who needed the bread for "her diet".  She and many others seemed to think that going on a gluten free diet will magically make the weight fall off of them.  It really doesn't work that way.

Gluten Free Cosmetics list

Sorry this took so long to get out.  This type of list requires a lot of research.  While many products have one or two gluten free items, I was trying to focus on brands that are gluten free.  Since I am the only author of this blog it takes a while for me to get all the research done.  Here is the list of gluten free beauty brands! A few of these brands may contain corn products in the form of xanthan gum.  The X is what that brand makes.  Have fun, and remember to keep yourself looking great in a gluten free way!  Please contact me if you know of any brands that I have missed.  I would love to add them to the list.

Gluten Free Sunsceen (2013)

I have been doing a lot of research and have compiled a list of gluten free sunscreens.  It is important to protect our skin this year and keep ourselves healthy and gluten free while doing so. I have spend the last few weeks adding to this list and doing research.  Here is what I have found

Some of these products contain other allergens and I will list those after the table.  In Alphabetical order here are all of the sunscreens I have found so far, that is not to say that I haven't missed at least a few, you might also want to check your local health food store or farmers market for ones that are not commercially made. The Stared ones are organic.

Without further Ado here is that list!

Gluten free Cold medications

I recently had to go to the doctor for shoulder pain and a sinus infection.  This normally would have been no issue since the doctors are well aware of my issues and try to get me into a room and away from the other patents (due to my IGA-D) however, in this case the nice lady up front forgot to check me in.  I waited over 50 minutes and 20 minutes past my appointment before I went to the front desk to ask what is going on.  I was taken back and put into a room.  The appointment went fine; I tore some of the muscles in my shoulder and did indeed have a sinus infection.

Gluten Free Shampoo and finding the right one.

Being Gluten free and highly conscientious I had a lot of trouble trying to find a great new shampoo.  So instead of muddling though by myself I asked some professional advice.

This is the answer that was told to me.

"It really depends on the hair type you have. Since you (meaning me) have thin, long light colored hair the products you use are going to need to bring shine and if you can get it body.  That means nothing that is going to weigh you down. Also I bet you tend to have dry ends and oily roots, that means you want something for that."

Since she was right on with my hair and the needs of my hair I explained to her that my last shampoo had Gluten in it so I decided it was time for a switch.  Also since the most perfect shampoo in the world (in my opinion) was discontinued then I was going to have to start from scratch.

She informed me that when I found the perfect shampoo I would know after three consecutive washes.  It would do what I need but also my hair should be able to be combed or brushed through while wet without too many issues.  So straight out to the shower I should be able to towel dry my hair and then be able to run a brush right through it.  If I can do this and the results last at least 24 to 48 hours then I have found what I am looking for.  You are going to be more difficult since you cannot use anything containing Gluten.

My needs are an oil controlling shampoo that is light and creates shine.  However, this only is what I need, everyone has a different hair type. Some more tips are to try samples instead of buying the whole product.  You may not get the right shampoo on the first try.  If they have the small travel size (for regular store shopping) pick it up instead.

Note the first time you use a shampoo it may not feel great on your hair.  This is because it is stripping the residue from the other shampoos this is why you need to try the product at least three times in a row.

I am still searching for another great shampoo but at least now I know where to start.
