Applebee's -Restaurant Series-

I finally made it to Applebee's.  Not only did we have a very pleasant waitress, the entire restaurant was very accommodating to my needs.  We wanted the chips and they were out of the safe ones.  Instead they made us a fruit plate and made sure that it stayed clean.  I was so happy that they were able to make something for me for an appetizer.  I managed to get a copy of the gluten free menu and they have some impressive options that are not available on some other menus.  As with any and all restaurants that are not completely gluten free you have to let the manager know that you have an allergy.  The manager in fact was thankful that I let her know.  People will not tell them and then get sick since the food is made in the normal area.  Some people don't even ask for a gluten free menu, they come in knowing what they want.  How is the kitchen staff supposed to know to take care with the food if they do not know that there is an issue?  They normally find out when they get a complaint to corporate that someone got sick off of a gluten free item.  

Her words are "please let me know if you have a special food need.  I cannot accommodate if I don't know that you have this need.  If you tell me that you have an allergy then I will make sure the food is taken care of and watched."  

As with any mixed food type restaurant, there is no way to 100% insure that you will not get sick.  Even with every safety precaution there may still be air contamination.   

Overall the whole restaurant experience was fantastic.  I ordered the bourbon street chicken.  Personally I would add cheese, but the entire dish was fantastic.
