Gluten Free Trick or Treating? What is safe to eat

Your child wants to go trick or treating?  I am offering a few ideas of how to do this safely and without having to steal all of their candy and replace it.

Only a few items in a trick or treat bag will need to be replaced with GF version.

An idea to get rid of the extra candy is to give it out to other trick or treaters if you can.  This will depend on when you go trick or treating and how many hours are left after you have gone through the candy. Or you can trade with other children such as a neighbors child. If you do not personally have an issue with gluten you can eat it yourself.  (My Father used to find an amazing amount of candy that was tampered with in my bag. Then he would eat it to make sure the rest was safe)

There are so many gluten free candy bars and candies out there that finding a great GF substitute is easy.
I have included a list of candy that may show up in your child's bag.  If the candy is not on this list then it is not currently deemed safe.  This list comes from information put out by the companies themselves.   A good idea would be to copy and print the list for a quick and easy way to go through the candy. Or let your child go through the candy with you.  It can be made into a game.  For each piece they find that they can't eat let them pick a substitute, for each piece you have to find that they can't eat you get to pick. This is so that they don't feel left out. Other games are to let them trade so many gluten containing pieces for a full sized candy or candy bar, or coupons for candy at a later date.  (Would have worked with me)
